Alex Pettyfer On Soul Mates and the Spice Girls

The Magic Mike protégé and Endless Love star (in theaters February 14) talks tattoos and why he doesn’t give a damn about his bad reputation.

Your Endless Love character is a good guy with a shady past. Any similarities?
We both love love. I love love. He works in a garage and I work in movies, so that’s a bit different. But I worked in a garage when I was 15. I also raced cars. Not professionally, but that’s what I always wanted to do. If I were in Formula 1, I’d quit acting…or make it my B job.

You’re pretty tatted up — any girlfriends’ names?
No! That’s relationship suicide. I would get my mom’s name though. My favorite one is “What goes around comes around” on my shoulder. I’m a big believer in karma, but 90 percent of people say, “Isn’t that a Justin Timberlake song?” I did a movie with Justin and told him, “You’re a fucking pain in my ass, mate!”

You’re known for being a bad boy — thoughts?
People will write what they want to write, and it’s a lot easier to flow the pen negatively than positively. But I’m a boring motherfucker. I don’t drink alcohol. I’ve never taken drugs — ever. So I don’t go out to nightclubs or anything. I go to Disneyland, or I’ll rent a go-kart track and go racing.

Diana Ross and Lionel Richie’s Endless Love is a karaoke classic. What’s your go-to jam?
Toto’s Africa or I’ll do the Spice Girls. “I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really want.” Do you know they had a West End show? I saw it when I was back in England. That’s me — true bad boy and lover of the Spice Girls.

Do you believe in soul mates?
I do. Maybe not just one. But I believe that there are people out there who are made for you. It’s hard to come by nowadays, but when you do, it’s something special.

Alex Pettyfer Describes His Perfect Date, Reveals He's "Always Wanted to Be a Young Dad"

The bad boy has become a mature man.

Alex Pettyfer describes his perfect date in the March 2014 issue of Cosmopolitan U.K., and he seems more at ease than ever. “Guys are as sensitive as women, I think,” the actor says. “Men and women are not that different—we just want to feel loved as well. I don’t believe in the Mars/Venus nonsense.”

Over the years, Pettyfer has been romantically linked to his I Am Number Four costar Dianna Agron and his Magic Mike costar Riley Keough. When it comes to wooing a woman, the movie star says he prefers conventional courting methods.

“I really like the traditional movie-and-dinner date,” he shares. “There are all those excited new feelings when you’re in the cinema—you’re looking at each other, but trying not to. I can think of about five dates when I couldn’t even tell you what we were watching.”

The Endless Love actor also admits that nearly he’s ready to settle down and start a family. “I’ve always wanted to be a young dad,” says Pettyfer, who explains that he’s saving up for the responsibility.

“I’m glad I left school at 15 and started acting. Had I stayed at school, I’d only just have finished university and started working,” he tells the magazine. “I wouldn’t have much financial stability, so I’d probably end up having kids later, whereas I can see myself doing so at maybe 29 or 30.”
